And Sunday was great too!

Gramps and Jack declared it hat day!

Jack took his first spin in the exersaucer! Thanks to Aunt Kari and Maggie for this super fun toy! Maggie loved hers and when they came to visit just before she was a year old, Kari bought one for her to play in here and left it for Jack to use when he got big enough. He was a bit overwhelmed but laughed a lot and just looked and looked at all the toys.

Jack and I took a nap (or maybe even 2!)...

And then Auntie Stephanie and Uncle Dan and Emory and Ellie came over for a night of light installing (thanks Dan!) and lightning bug catching! Apparently they don't see many lightning bugs in Florida so that was a real treat. Emory caught so many lightning bugs and it was so much fun watching the kids get excited about it!

Hope that you all have a fantastic week! It's a short one!

Busy Saturday!

Yesterday we had quite a busy day, but filled with lots of good busy-ness!
We started off the morning with snuggles with Daddy in bed...

Then it was off to visit with the Thayers. I didn't get any pictures there but it was great to see them! Then we headed to Grandma's...

She had lots of fun talking to Jack...

Miss Judy stopped by...

The cousins arrived just as we were leaving to head to Uncle Eddie's birthday outing so Jack stayed with Auntie Stephanie, Uncle Dan and Grandma and Ellie and Emory until we got back.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and we hope Sunday will be just as fun!

Tummy time

Jack gets tummy time at school everyday so we don't usually subject him to it again at home at night, but yesterday I noticed his "report card" from school didn't mention any tummy time, so I thought we'd give it a whirl and see how he was doing with it. Before I went back to work he'd move his head from side to side but wouldn't really push up or hold his head up for any length of time. But look at him now, he's a pro!

For those that aren't familiar with tummy time, now that babies sleep on their backs, they have to have supervised time on their tummies to make sure they develop the arm, leg and neck strength they need to crawl. When babies slept on their tummies, they got plenty of practice but once the experts linked tummy sleeping to SIDS and moved them all to their backs, they noticed that babies were quite delayed in crawling because they never developed those muscles.

Eventually he tires out...

and finds his thumb...

Happy Birthday

To Uncle Eddie - a day late! Hope you had a good one!

Sleepy

Since Jack was about 6 or 8 weeks old, he's gone to bed somewhere between 7:30 and 9 PM and slept until about 6AM getting up once, maybe on a rare night, twice to eat. I treasure our time together in the middle of the night when the world is dark and quiet and there's nothing to distract me from this amazing little guy in my arms.

But...this week everything seemed to change...and I can't figure out why!

He's been up 3-4 times a night every night this week. He's on 2 medications, either of which could be causing him to be uncomfortable I suppose. He also appears to be teething, which could certainly hurt. And, he's almost 4 months old and our neighbor's daughter did the same thing at about this age and they cured it by giving her cereal. Maybe he's just hungry? I'm not sure but it's really making for a sleepy bunch around here and we're hoping to get back to the old schedule sooner than later!

We haven't taken many pictures this week but here's a few cute ones from last week...Happy weekend to you all!

*Update (6/27/08): Of course, since I wrote that, he only got up twice last night!! I should have written it earlier in the week I guess!

Slowly but surely

Jack is getting a little better each day, thank goodness! He continues to cough, though the wheezing is a lot better and his appetite is back. Hopefully things will continue to improve and he'll be well sooner than the doctor predicted..."in a month!"

Saturday morning a car accident caused a power outage at our house that lasted 6-7 hours! We needed power for Jack's nebulizer so we took off to Grams and Gramps' house. We got to see the new deck and catch up with them and Jack got to see how his beanstalk was growing!

Of course my camera battery died while we were there and I was without the charger so I missed out on some good pics, but we'll try again next time!

Sunday we went to a co-worker's house for a barbecue. We had a really nice time meeting his family and learning more about their culture. One of the other guests was a little girl born March 2, 2008, just one day before Jack!

Hope you all have a great week! Emory and Ellie and Auntie Stephanie and Uncle Dan are headed to town this weekend - can't wait to see them!

Quack, quack, quack...

Jack was feeling a little better tonight and had a big time laughing at Daddy who was making duck noises. You can't tell but Jack has on a duck sleeper too...it's yellow and fuzzy and has duck feet! So nice to see him acting like his happy self. There are a few little coughs in the middle but just tune those out!

Happy weekend...

Bronchiolitis

So, after our third trip to the doctor in 7 days, we have a new diagnosis of bronchiolitis. Poor little fella. He's wheezing because his bronchioles are full of mucous, and they aren't very big to start with. He's doing ok though. He slept really well last night and is eating some, though not a whole lot. He coughs really bad in the morning but then it seems to improve after he's a little more upright for a while.

It's horrible to watch him and not be able to help...or to be able to help but have him scream while you are trying. He hates having his nose suctioned and he hates the breathing treatments they have prescribed. But we'll manage...and hopefully in a few days things will be improving.

In good news, the ear infection diagnosed on Monday seemed to be gone when we were at the doctor yesterday, so we're making progress!

I'm home with him today just to make sure he gets all the love he needs. We're sad we have to postpone our trip to meet his Great-Grandparents Lion yet again but we certainly don't want anyone else to get this nasty stuff!

Hope you all have a great Friday and weekend too!

Another busy week

I'm not sure where it's gone but it already seems to be Thursday! That's closer to the weekend at least...no complaints about that!

Jack is still coughing but seems to not be bothered by his ear infection, so that's good news!

Congrats to Brent and Sara and their new baby girl this week and hopefully to Kristen and Daniel (and big brother John) who were scheduled for an induction yesterday morning. We hope all went well and can't wait to meet these little ones!

Hope you all have a good one - here's a picture of Jack from last weekend:

Rolling over

Yesterday Jack rolled almost all the way over from his back to his tummy. I'm pretty sure it was all in an attempt to get his thumb into his mouth, but it happened twice! Here's the proof...

He's on a bit of a hunger strike today so we're headed back to the doctor. His cough has gotten a little deeper and he's supposed to be eating 90% of his normal intake but it's closer to 30-40%. (Update - Dr. says he has the start of an ear infection so it's hurting him to swallow. A little Tylenol and some antibiotics should fix him right up!) It hasn't dampened his mood though...here he is smiling at Daddy this morning:

Happy Father's Day!

To our dads and granddads and all the new dads, especially Kenny! We hope your day is perfect!

I found Kenny and Jack sound asleep in our bed the other morning after I'd gotten up to get ready for work. They were so cute all snuggled up together...it was enough to melt my heart.

Watching Kenny with Jack adds another layer of amazingness to this whole Mom thing (that is a kind of amazing I never had imagined!). He's so patient and loving and it's always clear what a great time he's having! The light in his eyes is like nothing I'd ever seen before Jack was born. I certainly couldn't ask for a better partner with which to be raising this little guy...thank you, and we love you and can't wait for all of the fun that is to come!

3 Day Weekend!

It's a long weekend at the Lion household and it's filled with lots of fun events and the chance to see lots of great people - we are really looking forward to it!

We caught a few more after-bath smiles last night...

The bottom one is fuzzy but his expression was too cute to pass up.

TGIF!

Momma's excited it's Friday anyway...even if Jack doesn't know the difference between Friday and Monday!

He's still got a stuffy nose and so we're off the doctor this morning. It's been 2 weeks...I just want to be sure he's ok. He really doesn't seem to mind but I just want to make sure that's all it is. Someone in his class was diagnosed with RSV last week so we'll just go make sure we don't have that!

UPDATE - he's fine! The Dr. said this was just the beginning of "permacold" that would last for the next 3 years. But, the good news she said, is after that, he shouldn't get sick much at all! In fun facts, he weighed 13lbs 13 oz on the 13th of June!

Here's a cute picture from a few days ago...

Bath time smiles

We noticed a few nights ago that Jack started smiling as soon as he was out of the bathtub and wrapped up in his towel. Previously he would fuss when you wrapped him up, but all of a sudden things changed and he started to like it. We finally remembered to bring the camera up with us and were able to capture a few good smiles for you...

Two Wonderful Years

Yesterday was our 2nd wedding anniversary. It has really flown by, although at the times, it's often hard to remember life without Kenny too. We're very lucky to live this life full of such love and happiness and to have each other and all of you to share that with. Thanks to everyone that helped us get this far!

Thankfully it wasn't 100 degrees on our wedding day...the weather was beautiful...it was an absolutely perfect day!

And look at the cuteness we made:

Who could ask for more? Thank you Kenny...for everything! I love you!

That's my baby!

Jack found his thumb for good this weekend. It seemed every time we turned around he was sucking on it. I sucked my thumb until I was much too old to be sucking my thumb, and it's fascinating to me how such things seem to have a genetic link. At our 2nd or third trip to the pediatrician, within the first 2 weeks of his life, she noticed that he had found his thumb and asked if either of us were thumb suckers. I confessed and she told me that it probably wasn't worth fighting with him about it, just to be prepared for the orthodontic bills later in life! We'll start saving our pennies!

Mail

Last week Jack got his first big piece of mail addressed to him. Inside was this adorable picture that Ellie had colored for him and a note from Auntie Stephanie telling him how excited Ellie was about sending it to him. THANK YOU ELLIE - that was very sweet of you and your coloring skills are quite impressive!

Almost the weekend!

Jack's excited about that!

This picture is from earlier in the week actually...Darin and Jack were having a ball! Jack seems to be feeling a lot better and has his appetite back. Thank goodness! We've sent 4 bottles to daycare every day since we started and every day they send at least 1 back home at the end of the day. Today I just sent 3 bottles. When I got there, he was chewing on his hands and so fussy...hungry...and no more bottles! Of course, the one day I send 3, he wants 4! Oh well, I'm just so glad his appetite is back!

Here he is talking to Daddy tonight...

HAPPY GRADUATION ELLIE!! Hope you all have a great weekend!
