We had a great 4th of July, and sure hope you all did too! The weather actually cooled off for part of the weekend, which was such a bonus! Looks like later this week it's going to be 104, and while I don't ever want it to be 104, I'm sure glad it wasn't this weekend.
Friday night we took Jack on his first trip to Toys-R-Us. He was absolutely amazed and overwhelmed. At first, he didn't say much of anything but soon just started screaming "Dinosaurs, choo-trains, balls!" It was really cute, though very hard to get him to focus on what we came to do, which was try out a few tricycles for size. He's become quite adept at pedaling and really seemed too big for almost all the trikes. We even tried out a bike with training wheels and he loved it, but was a bit too short to touch both pedals at once. He did make it go, but we decided to save that purchase for next year and opted for a smaller trike this year. He's only 2, after all, and has plenty of time to ride a bike!
We also came home with a tee ball set that has already been well worth the $14 it cost!
Saturday we got to spend the day with Grandma and the O'Donnells! Kenny went with them to the Kickers game but Jack and I stayed behind for naptime. It was a bit hot for us anyway, but I'm sorry we missed Emory being picked to be the ball boy!! Afterwards, they came over for some outside fun and pizza. It was a great day and we were so glad to have some time with them.
Sunday we took the trike over to the neighborhood kid's parade. We didn't really think Jack would ride in it, just with so many people and kids and such, but he surprised us all and rode almost all the way, like a champ!
After the long (2 blocks?) ride, he needed to cool off by jumping in a few puddles. I guess someone's sprinkler system had been on because we surely haven't had any rain of late to make any puddles!
Here's Jack's impression of how he was stomping...
After nap we went to the Wheawills for a great cookout! I didn't take the camera :( but we had a great time and it was so good to see that crowd. It had been way too long! Jack was both in love and scared to death of Wally, their sweet dog, so we send our apologies Wally, that you had to be corralled at your own party. :(
Later that night we made the trek to Riverside to see the fireworks! Jack went to see them on his first 4th but slept right through them. Last year we didn't dare mess with his schedule so much as to keep him up that late, but this year, he did great! He watched in complete awe with a huge grin on his face, for a good 5-6 minutes. "Lights! red, blue, green, oh no!" It helps a lot that most of the noise is muffled since we watch from across the river, but I think he really enjoyed it and I'm glad we decided to take him!
Today it was off to the pool with Grams and Gramps! Always a fun time!
