Happy Halloween

Jack dressed up as a little duck this year for Halloween! He's so interested in animals and his "quack, quack" is so cute, we thought it would be a good fit for him this year, since he wasn't quite old enough to decide for himself what he wanted to be.

He was a bit confused by the whole scene, but in the end, enjoyed it I think! Friday night his school had a party that was so much fun! Getting ready to go wasn't quite as much fun...Jack really wasn't excited about being a duck at all!

But once we got there, he was thrilled, as usual. He gets so excited anytime we go to school and this was certainly no exception!

They did such a good job of decorating...

and had great activities for the kids to earn treats.

Jack's favorite was, quite fittingly, the "Duck Pond."

His buddy Emerson really liked the duckpond too. He was the CUTEST little vampire I have ever seen!

Jack's favorite part about this game was the tablecloth! They spent a week learning about bats and another week learning about spiders in preparation for Halloween and since then, has been obsessed with both. He came home from school one day pointing out bats in his Halloween books and flapping his arms! And spiders, my goodness, he gets so excited when he sees one, exclaiming "PIDER!" So, at some point he spotted the spiders on this tablecloth from across the blacktop and said "pider, pider, pider, pider, pider, pider...!" It was really funny. He needed to point each and every "pider" out!

Anytime he got a treat though, he tried to put it back in their bucket. He just didn't get the whole concept at all. But he had fun and cried and cried when it was time to go home. Little did he know he'd get to wear the duck suit again the next night!

Saturday night we went to Grams and Gramps' neighborhood to try out a little trick-or-treating. He made it through the first house ok, but really didn't understand what was going on at all. They had a dog that was much more interesting to him than the candy. He doesn't really know what candy is yet so we weren't all that surprised. We thought we'd try one more house after that one since we'd heard the little boy that lived there was dressed up as a spider. As it turned out, they weren't home but had left a pumpkin full of candy on the front stoop. We told Jack to take one piece of candy from their pumpkin and put it into his pumkin. It happened that their pumkpin full of candy was the exact same plastic pumpkin that Jack was carrying that night. So, it made much more sense to Jack to just pick up their pumpkin, which was full of candy, and leave his pretty empty one there! Don't worry, we didn't let him get far, but we did get a good chuckle out of it.

Maybe next year he'll understand what it's all about...we'll see!
